The photography hustle is definitely a good avenue to meet women. I've been doing photography for about 6 months now. I plan on taking a class in October to really get good at it, then seeing where I can go with it. I'm just doing family pics and nature pics for right now though, but plan on venturing into model photography once I get more experience under my belt.

It's really a win-win for both parties. A new photographer is likely not going to charge a model to do a photoshoot because he's mainly just trying to build up his portfolio first as is the model. I can just approach random pretty girls on the street and ask them if they ever considered modeling. Show them my camera to let them know I have legit equipment (pause) and not just a point and shoot digital camera. She gets pictures taken at no cost to her plus her portfolio gets built up too. As a photographer, I have full rights to all pictures since I took them. I could do whatever I want with them; ell them to a magazine or sell them to some perv so he can jack off to it. The model on the other hand can't do shit with her pictures unless I give her permission. :cool:

I think he was referring to photography being weak as far as being the only way you meet girls. But being married, if I approached a girl about taking pictures, it would be a legit proposal.

Photography is definitely not a weak hustle though. It's even easier to get into nowadays than it was 10 years ago thanks to digital slr's on the market. I paid about $700 for my camera and lenses. The lenses are more expensive than the cameras sometimes. I definitely enjoy the craft though. I haven't made any money from it yet, but then again I haven't tried. Just shooting for sport right now trying to learn the craft. Some of the best wedding photographers make $5,000 a wedding. Imagine doing 1 wedding a week for just half the year. That's $130,000 right there.

I got into photography because music was beginning to bore me, especially when nobody wants to pay you for your work. Photography gets instant respect from folks when it comes to putting value to your work. I shoot people and want to shoot weddings mainly as my source of income. I still have a bit of ways to go til I feel comfortable doing that so I shoot anything that comes my way.

I can see how people can use this to find chicks, its pretty easy. This past weekend I shot a baby shower and I think after I left I became the main topic of conversation. As soon as I walked in the hostess asked my sister if I was single, probably trying to hook me up with someone. So yeah, its real easy to meet chicks if thats why you picked up the camera.

What I've noticed is that girls aren't used to being in front of the camera. If you get them comfortable enough, they will get loose. My job is to make them comfortable so the pics don't looked forced...but not THAT comfortable.lol

I use a Canon 5D and I have 4 different lenses. But 9 times outta 10 I don't like the way the pics look straight out of the camera. It's what I do in Lightroom and Photoshop that makes the difference. So I enjoy both the actual photoshoot AND the editing side of photography. So when you charge for shoots, make sure you're including the editing time as well.

I don't think I charge much. I charged the baby shower chick $75 cause its my sisters friend(plus she was my other sisters wedding coordinator and that can lead to more work). But I've been charging $120 per session, but thats only cause I'm pretty new and I want the experience. Mileage counts too! I had to drive to the Cape a few weeks back. I charged $180 for that one.

Make it sound like they're getting a good deal. 2-3hour shoot...3-4 outfit changes...2-3 locations for variety...editing = $??? Break it down so they know exactly what they're paying for.

Photshop is great, but expensive(if you're buying it legit). But photoshop is for more than just photography, that's why its expensive. Lightroom is specifically for photos and can do really great things. I start out in Lightroom and correct exposures and add some effects to it using presets I've made, then I go into Photoshop to edit further. Both programs are well worth it.

lol. The running I do for me, the women are a welcome benefit.

The yoga class started off with the running - we have speakers come in and a chick from the yoga studio brought us passes, so I checked it out for a couple of sessions. It was good, and despite all the hot women, not something I want to do on the regular. So I stopped going.

And yeah, I brought a date to a Hot Yoga class, but because I wanted to go stretch post-race (I ran earlier that day). I didn't have time to go home and shower, so we met at the hot yoga place (where you're going to sweat like a beast anyways, did our thing, showered, and got out of there. I call that good planning.

But it's pretty much the same for anything I do. Even Dragonboat. Did it for me because I wanted to try it out. Happened to smash a few cute asians. Was getting some injuries that was affecting my running so I got out.

Rock climbing - went to this place. Man it was hard as hell. And yeah - I tried working the girl at the front desk, and another chick who's a pro climber there. But again - I had no idea there'd be women there. I didn't go there explicitly to meet women.

Everything I do is because I want to do it. And if I get tired of it, I'm not going to stick around because of the women. You can meet women almost anywhere doing almost anything.

There's a difference. And I'm sure a lot of photographers do it because they love it (guys like geo and a few others on here). I'm just saying I know a lot of dudes who don't even really do photography, but bought a camera and use it as a pickup accessory.

And it should piss off the real photographers on here. I know it irritates me when I see a guy who's clearly not into magic doing a really awful trick (or a really great one, but done badly). It brings a bad name to those who work hard to practice, learn and do it well and who are actually interested in it.

I want that 7D so bad man!! I was looking at the 5D Mark II's, but they run like $2,500 retail. It's a full frame camera though, so you're going to pay coin for them. The 7D is a little more reasonable at $1,500, but it has a crop sensor vs full frame. It still a pretty good camera though. They both shoot 1080P video too.
