MINNEAPOLIS (AP)
Top WNBA draft pick Maya Moore has become the first female basketball player to sign an endorsement deal with the Jordan Brand, a division of Nike Inc.

The Oregon-based sportswear business in basketball great Michael Jordan's name announced the agreement Wednesday.

Moore was selected by the Minnesota Lynx out of the University of Connecticut last month. Considered one of the best players to turn pro in years, she won two national titles at UConn and is a two-time winner of the Associated Press Player of the Year award.

In a statement issued by the company, Jordan says he's ''thrilled'' to welcome Moore to the commercial team. He says her ''hunger and determination to make an impact off the court makes her a valuable addition.''

Grease star Jeff Conway fighting for life in coma

Actor Jeff Conaway, best known for his role in the hit musical "Grease", is in a coma fighting for his life after an apparent drug overdose.

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01900/grease_1900014c.jpg
Family members said the 60 year old was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after being found unconscious at his home in Encino, California.

He is reported to have become addicted to pain killers after falling down a flight of stairs in January 2010 breaking a hip, arm and fracturing his neck but has a long history of substance abuse.

The troubled actor has battled drink and drug addiction for many years and has featured on a US reality show where Hollywood stars are sent into rehab.

Conaway became an international star in 1978 when he co-starred with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John in the hit musical Grease.

He played Kenickie the swaggering leader of the T-Birds gang and close friend of Travolta's character Danny Zuko.

The actor, who appeared in the stage version of the film, went on to appear in the long running comedy series "Taxi" as Bobby Wheeler an out of work actor who moonlights as a taxi-driver.
He left after four seasons due to creative differences with the producers.
Conaway landed other TV roles, including the sci fi series Babylon 5, but was never able to match the success of Grease which is the highest grossing musical of all time.
After becoming addicted to cocaine and painkillers his film work eventually dried up.
In 1980, he married Olivia Newton-John's sister Rona, but the couple, who have a son called Emerson, divorced five years later.
Conaway's troubles with substance abuse have been extensively documented on reality television.
He became one of celebrity counsellor Dr. Drew Pinsky's most agitated patients on reality TV show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.
Conaway has been in Encino hospital near Los Angeles since May 11th after being found unconscious at his home.
"The doctors are not optimistic and he is fighting for life right now," said Kathryn Boole, his manager.
"We're hoping he will pull through, but he is still in a coma'.
Phil Brock, another member of the star's management team, added: "These could be his final moments."
"He slightly moved his head three days ago but since, there's been no sign he'll recover."

Estella Warren arrested: Actress tries to escape from police custody after DUI bust, alleged assault

Estella Warren faces a felony escape charge, among others, after trying to leave police custody.

Estella Warren's wild night in Los Angeles got a whole lot wilder than she probably intended.
The actress was arrested just after midnight Tuesday morning after driving her Toyota Prius into not one, not two, but three parked cars, TMZ.com reported.
According to the gossip site, Warren was taken into police custody after she left the scene of the accident. But, as it turns out, her legal problems were just beginning.
The 32-year-old, in an apparent attempt to resist the arrest, allegedly kicked one of the cops.

Then, at the police station, the "Planet of the Apes" star reportedly managed to remove her handcuffs and escape through a back door during the booking process.
Not only was she recaptured, TMZ said, but Warren also earned herself an additional charge: felony escape.
She's also facing charges of DUI, hit-and-run and assault, the site said.
Bail was set at $100,000, according to the website for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Ronnie whoops The Situation's ass in Italy

Ronnie and The Situation got into a MAJOR fist fight with each other last night in Italy ... TMZ has learned -- and based on the post-brawl pictures ... the Sitch got his ass kicked.

The two arrived separately back to their apartment hours ago -- Situation has red marks covering his face around his left eye. Ronnie's knuckles were torn up and bleeding.

Details around the fight are still unclear -- but big surprise ... we're told it all began with a blowout between Ronnie and Sammi.

On April 8, 2011, one day after his rumored overdose, Hall showed up clearly intoxicated to his appearance at a Top Rope Promotions wrestling show in Massachusetts. Things were so bad that Hall, who was still wearing a hospital bracelet, had to be helped into the ring by two men because he was unable to walk on his own. Hall proceeded to cut a promo and was confronted by a local wrestler named Gorgeous Gino Giovanni, who was trying to begin a match with once-Kliq member Justin Credible. Most of the fans were confused by his behavior, while some understood what was happening and proceeded to heckle Hall to the point where he yelled back at the crowd. Unfortunately, Scott was apparently so impaired that he thought he was in England instead of New England, and called the crowd a bunch of Wankers, which is an English insult. After the match between Giovanni and Credible ended, Hall, who was still slurring, tried to goad Giovanni to come back into the ring. Former wrestler, Scotty 2 Hotty was at the show and said seeing Hall in that condition was one of the saddest, most embarrassing things he has ever witnessed, and asked how many people have to die before they learn.[122][123][124] After the event, Hall was onhand for autograph signings and was clearly still intoxicated. [125]

TMZ reported on April 9, 2011, that Hall was taken to the hospital following his appearance at an indy wrestling show in Massachusetts a day earlier. Hall is being treated for his cardiac issues and will remain in the hospital for at least three days. Hall is reported to be on ten different medications, which TMZ reports led to his overdose on April 7, although his agent quickly denied that report.[126]

Top Rope Promotions released a statement on April 11, 2011 regarding Hall's behavior and performance at their April 8 show. 31 year old owner Steve Ricard said that Hall arrived the day before the event in a wheelchair with 3 bottles of prescription pills in his possession though the following day he showed in the state he was in demanding appearance fee although he was already paid. Hall made many threats to the staff and made many demands about money and when he would perform. According to Ricard, Hall was threatening to "kill me if I 'screwed' him over." [127]

Longtime friend, Kevin Nash commented on Hall's recent problems saying that once Hall is released from the hospital he will be there to pick him up and take him back to his home and try and help him. Nash also claimed that Hall is not a drug addict but rather that he suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.[128] Nash asked fans to please not judge his friend and that Hall was his brother and together they would get through this. Eric Bischoff, another one of Hall's close friends and former boss said he wished he knew how to help him saying he was an amazing talent and deep down a great person but his demons were killing him. [129]

On May 8, 2011, Hall's ex-wife, Dana said that during a phone conversation with Hall he told her that he knew the end is near and he doesn't have much time left to live and wanted her and the kids to be with him in the end. Dana tried calling Hall back but he wouldn't answer so in fear that he was dying or had died she quickly calld 9-11. When she arrived at Hall's home, Hall was refusing to allow EMT's in to help him. Hall completly flipped out when he saw his ex-wife. She said the scene reminded her of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest or The Shining. Hall was threatening to beat up the EMTs even doing the DX crotch chop he was known to do in the ring. At one point Hall held up his hand to hit Dana but officers on the scene stopped him. Dana told Hall that this was the last time she would see him and told him goodbye. Dana said she felt foolish for falling for his tricks again. There was nothing behind his eyes but hate and evil. He made his bed ... now he has to lie in it. [130]

Kevin Nash again commented on Hall's health problems during radio interview on May 8, 2011. Nash said that Hall is at a place right now where the peaks and valleys are so incredibly high and low and the last week he’s been at a level spot, his health is bad. Nash said that he can't make Scott Hall want to live, he can't make Scott Hall want to get better, he can't make Scott want to repair his relationship with his children, he can't make any of those things happen and the only one who can is Scott. When and if he does I will be the happiest person on earth. He always knows no matter what, day or night, if he needs me and really needs me or needs anything or anything of me or for him I will be there in an hour and he knows that. I can't be his therapist, I can't be his wife, I can't be his rehabilitation specialist but I can be his friend. I think he needs friends more than he needs people telling him what he has to do or not to do. [131]

Star-struck NYPD fixed tickets for A-Rod and Jay-Z
Star-struck cops have fixed tickets for big-time celebs, including Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez and former team owner George Steinbrenner, sources told the Daily News.
Cops also made tickets disappear for three current City Council members, sources told The News. Two ofthe elected officials are from the Bronx and the third is from Manhattan.
Cops even showed Brooklyn love, letting rap superstar Jay-Z's driver off the hook for a speeding ticket, sources said.

Two sources familiar with the A-Rod speeding ticket said he was driving on the West Side Highway near W.57th St. in 2009. A highway cop issued the ticket, but an NYPD sergeant later squashed it, the sources said.
Yankees officials refused to comment last night. Rodriguez's spokesman declined to talk about the allegations.
Revelations of special treatment for bigwigs emerged as Bronx prosecutors and the Internal Affairs Bureau conduct separate investigations into suspected ticket-fixing.
It wasn't immediately clear if the allegations about A-Rod, Steinbrenner or Jay-Z's driver were part of the ongoing probe.

Three sources gave the Daily News names of celebrities who had tickets after Edward Mullins, the president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, called on members to give testimonials about the longstanding NYPD practice.
"It was very easy for a big name towalk away from a summons," onepolice source said. "[Celebrities] have contacts everywhere. There's aneagerness to help because of who theyare."
About 40 cops could be indicted for improperly voiding tickets, losing paperwork or purposely missing court dates in order to squash summonses, sources said.

Sources say the practice was so rampant, representatives for celebrities or politicians would sometimes call Police Headquarters directly to get their clients off the hook.
Summonses were fixed for bold-faced names who committed a wide array of infractions, sources said.
In addition to A-Rod, they include:
- At least three Council members had tickets fixed after they phoned friends in the NYPD. The city legal department said it had no information on the matter.

- Ex-Knick and current Denver Nuggets star Raymond Felton was pulled over blocks from Madison Square Garden, but his summons for a moving violation never made it to court, two sources said. A team spokesman declined to comment.
- A driver for Jay-Z was hit with a ticket last year after cops caught him speeding on the West Side Highway. A friendly cop "lost" the paperwork, and the case was nixed. The rapper's publicist declined to comment.
- Before his death, Steinbrenner used his clout with city officials to nix numerous tickets for family, friends and staffers. A Yankees spokesman did not return calls.

With his brother Pusha T enjoying a solo career with G.O.O.D. Music, Malice is taking a different approach to life outside of Clipse. After undergoing a powerful religious transformation, the Virginia Beach, Virginia native has revealed that he plans on changing his name to represent something less evil.

“I’m not a malicious person, and I don’t really like answering to that. I know that people that follow The Clipse or follow my music, they know Malice, so I understand that, I get that,” he told Ruby Hornet TV. “But you don’t want to be under any moniker that’s of evil intent, that’s not you. I come to more believe that there’s so much power in the tongue. The power of the tongue is life and death, so I believe if you are what you fall under whether it’s in your subconscious or not. It’s just me trying to clean up a little bit. But I haven’t thought of that name yet. So Malicious is what it is right now.”

Malice is currently promoting his new book Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked, which documents his religious experience. “When I went through my experience, I wasn't thinking about music,” he said. "I had to put it into the book and just share it once and for all."

As for his cocaine-themed music recorded with The Clipse, he doesn’t discredit the group’s body of work. “The Clipse catalog, it’s a great catalog of music. We were right there with The Neptunes at the height of the whole Star Trak thing in the Clipse, so I’m definitely proud of it,” he added. “And I’m even more so proud of it because it has presented me with this platform here. If I had not have had the first platform, I wouldn’t have this platform, so they all play a part with each other. It’s about evolving, it’s about growing and nothing stays the same. I would be very much ashamed if I come to you next year the same place I was three years ago. I’m seeing the big picture, and a lot of times we think we’re writing the script, but really, we’re not.”

We Hope This Is Real: Plates On Benches Leave Ads On Ladies' Legs

http://consumerist.com/Superette_Short_Shorts.jpg

Here's a guerrilla marketing technique that goes far beyond KFC's advertising of the Double Down on the butts of college co-eds. A clothing store in New Zealand is using plates installed on benches to imprint their ad onto the back of bare legs.

The ad agency behind the campaign explains:

We put indented plates on bus stop, mall, and park benches, so that when people sat down, the message was imprinted on their thighs. This meant that as well as having branded seats, a veritable army of free media was created, with thousands of imprints being created and lasting up to an hour.

We've written to Superette, the store that's reportedly behind the campaign to verify that it's real.

http://cdn03.cdnwp.celebuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/26/kyle-massey-bristol-palin-400x300.jpg

It sounds like Bristol Palin and Kyle Massey are doing more together than just living together and filming a reality show for the BIO channel together. According to the National Enquirer, the former Dancing with the Stars contestants are also dating — and “Mama Grizzly” Sarah Palin does NOT approve. “She is doing her best to prevent Bristol’s new relationship from being featured in the reality show,” reveals a source close to the family.

Bristol, unsurprisingly, doesn’t seem to care what Sarah thinks. The source adds that Bristol “doesn’t agree with her mom’s politics or her controlling ways.”

So what do you think? Does Sarah need to back off, or does she have a right to meddle in her daughter’s affairs? We’re not so sure. After all, Kyle seems like a really great guy — and he’s a major improvement over her previous partners, baby daddy Levi Johnston and pipeline worker Gino Paoletti, who was believed to be the reason Bristol reportedly moved to her new home in Arizona.

Still, since Bristol’s every move is captured by the media, it’s important for Sarah to make sure her daughter’s decisions don’t reflect poorly on her upbringing — especially if Sarah decides to run for President of the United States, as is being widely speculated.

HollywoodLife.com reached out to a source close to Bristol, who actually refuted rumors of a Bristol-Kyle romance altogether, insisting they’re just friends. The source explained that Bristol and Kyle were the only contestants in their age range, so it’s only natural they would buddy up.

Actor Peter Fonda Said He’s Training His Grandsons to Shoot President Obama

http://yourblackworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Peter-Fonda.jpg
At the Cannes film festival, actor Peter Fonda may have said some words that he will eventually come to regret. During an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Fonda stated that he is training his grandchildren to assassinate the president, which some argue would make him guilty of a federal crime.

“I’m training my grandchildren to use long-range rifles,” he said. “For what purpose? Well, I’m not going to say the words ‘Barack Obama,’ but …”
Some argue that Fonda broke the law with his ill-conceived remarks.

“Clearly, there is a federal law that prohibits threatening the president,” said attorney Ross Nabatoff . “Now, the question is, is that a threat as opposed to him expressing his First Amendment rights? But you could conceivably construe that as a threat—he names the president. It’s a federal offense. He could be incarcerated.”

Fonda has referred to President Obama as a “traitor” for the way he handled the BP oil spill last summer. The “Easy Rider” actor is a strong environmentalist and has taken public issue with the president. During Cannes, he attended the premier of “The Big Fix,” a documentary discusses the BP explosion and all of the consequences of the subsequent spill.

“I sent an email to President Obama saying, ‘You are a f—— traitor,’ using those words… ‘You’re a traitor, you allowed foreign boots on our soil telling our military – in this case the coastguard – what they can and could not do, and telling us, the citizens of the United States, what we could or could not do’,” Fonda said.

Amber Rose Didn't Ask For This Life, Okay!?

http://www.dlisted.com/files/amberrosecursesoutvibemagazine.jpg
Amber Rose, the Susan Powter of rap star hos, went on a pound sign-ridden Twitter rant the other day over Vibe Magazine allegedly filling their cover story on her with lies and stuffing fake words into her mouth. Kanye West taught Amber well in the art of Twitter tantrums, because this bald headed ho released a spray of hash tag fucks directed at Vibe. Amber doesn't really specify as to which parts of Vibe's story charbroiled her asshole, but Animal New York thinks it might be this little piece.

The high-profile relationship took a turn in Hawaii during Kanye’s recording sessions for his cathartic fifth album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. West booked an entire Honolulu studio indefinitely for 24-hour slots while a cast of artists joined him for long days of business. Rose allegedly didn’t take to the all-work, no-play atmosphere. “In Hawaii [Amber] was being obnoxious in the studio like, ‘What the fuck? I wanna fucking eat,’” says an anonymous source. “Kanye got so mad because here he is trying to record and she keeps talking about, ‘Let’s go back to the house, I wanna fuck. We haven’t fucked in two days.’ I left the room for 10 minutes and when I came back he [told her], ‘Yo get the fuck up out of here!’ She left the room crying.

Amber shouldn't feel sad, mad or embarrassed about that mess since "Yo get the fuck up out of here" is the same thing Kanye quietly said to Taylor Swift before kidnapping the mic from her. It's also what Kanye says to humbleness anytime it tries to get on him. But Amber is still mad and this is what she blasted at Vibe.

Just read "my" interview in @VibeMagazine half of the story was untrue & ridiculous!

F##K that Cover F##K @VibeMagazine yall wrote a bunch of negative bullshit that I never said or did.

Yall don't give a fuck that I have a Mom & Family thats gonna read that fake ass shit I gave yall a truthful interview & Yall f##ked me.

I'm so sick of keeping my mouth shut I didn't ask for this life it was handed to me I was nothing but nice to everyone I spoke to @ Vibe

"I didn't ask for this life it was handed to me" really is a classic quote that Amber should tattoo into her ass crack. I would wrap Amber Rose in a giant "BITCH PLEASE" but that would be cruel. Amber has been through enough! Amber has no choice but to pay her barber bills by giving interviews for absolutely no reason and flashing her nalgas in the likes of King Magazine. Amber can't get a regular job, because there's a good chance (and by "good" I mean "no") she'll be recognized and mobbed! You think about this the next time Kanye hands you his peen. If you accept, you might have to live the rest of your life on the step below the Kardashians on the famewhore ladder.

May we all say a prayer over our Memorial Day hot dogs today for Amber Rose's struggles. It's hard being Amber Rose.

LaShawna Threatt, an aspiring model, celebrating her 30th birthday at a swank Midtown hotel, plunged to her death early Saturday morning at a party in her honor.

A friend, whom police say was “play fighting” with Threatt, is clinging to life at Grady Memorial Hospital after both of them crashed through a thick window and fell 10 stories out of the W Atlanta — Midtown.

Atlanta Police Department spokesman Carlos Campos said witnesses at the 14th Street hotel told officers that Threatt and the other woman crashed through the window at around 3:15 a.m.

As the women fell, they hit another structure — an area that had a slanted sunroof. Threatt remained there.

The other woman — identified by friends as Ciara Williams — rolled off the ledge and fell the remaining 20 feet unto the patio, police said. She is at Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

“It appears that there was no malicious act, no foul play, they were just wrestling with each other, they hit the window, the window broke, and they fell out,” said Atlanta Police Lt. Paul Guerrucci.

Threatt was a model, who also did party promotions for alcoholic beverage companies.

Williams is a dancer, said Passionate Chonvill, who owns a marketing company.

“She is a background dancer. Very big in urban dancing,” Chonvill said. “She is in love with dancing.”

Jomarys Castillo, 24, a friend of Threatt, said earlier Saturday, about 20 friends met at an Atlantic Station restaurant for a celebration dinner.

“It was her 30th birthday and it was wonderful and fabulous, just like she was,” said Castillo, who knew Threatt though modeling circles.

Afterwards, most of the group went to the hotel, where Threatt had a rooftop party, said Castillo.

Castillo did not follow the group to the hotel.

“The last thing we talked about was her wanting to come to my baby’s first birthday party on Aug. 11,” said Castillo through tears. “Her idol was Marilyn Monroe, so it is kind of ironic that she would die so young.”

Chonvill, who is another close friend of Threatt, said she missed the party as well, but confirmed from her friends who were there that the two were playing around.

“LaShawna is a mess, a silly goofball. She likes to playfight and tickle you. They had just gotten in the hotel and were having a good time,” Chonvill said. “My friends who were there, said it was so random. They literally just fell out the window. They are two small girls and I am trying to figure out how the hell, two small girls could break a window like that.”

In a statement issued Saturday morning hotel manager Michael O’Donohue, said further information about the accident and investigation would have to come from police.

“The incident at the W Atlanta early Saturday is very tragic and our thoughts and prayers are with the woman who was injured and the family and friends of the woman who died in the fall,” O’Donohue said. “There is a police investigation underway and all information must come from the authorities.”

Mike DeNiro, the owner of The DeNiro Group, said Threatt often did events for his production company.

“I have been knowing her for years. She was a mom and a good, free-spirited person,” said DeNiro, 38. “She was one of the best persons you could ever know.”

DeNiro said he was not at the birthday party, and like many of their other friends, have been slowly finding out about the accident, through the news, Twitter and Facebook.

“When I saw it, it crushed me,” said DeNiro, adding that he bumped into Threatt and her daughter at the mall last week.

Police are investigating the fall as an accident, but Campos said that the homicide unit has been requested to assist with the death investigation.

Groundbreaking poet and political activist Gil Scott-Heron, who helped lay the groundword for rap and is best known for the song “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” died on Friday night at the age of 62. Read rememberances by the Post; New York Times; and the BBC. The cause of death is unknown. Scott-Heron stayed active late into his career, releasing a new album, “I’m New Here” in 2010 and “We’re New Here,” a collaborative remix album with Jamie XX earlier this year. Later today on Click Track we will have a recap of a memorial concert held Monday night at Bohemian Caverns in tribute to Scott-Heron.

After more than a year-and-a-half of dissing Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel has something important to say: Sorry.

“What Mike Epps say? ‘Gangstas fu*k up too,’” Sigel exclusively told XXLMag.com over the phone, while in his native Philadelphia today (May 31). “Whatever I felt this dude Jay did wrong to me, it can’t outweigh the one thing he did do for me – he gave me an opportunity. Dude gave me an opportunity. A lot of people don’t get opportunities. He gave me that. That outweighs everything. I need that in black and white. I got caught in the moment and put my feelings out there. I should have never done that.”

The Philly rhyme spitter dissed Hov and Memphis Bleek, his former friends and Roc-A-Fella cohorts, on the scathing “What You Talkin About (I Ain’t Your Average Cat)” back in 2009 and proceeded to insult the two during nearly every show appearance and interview thereafter.

Sigel, born Dwight Grant, even told XXL that he had an album’s worth of recorded material bashing the Roc, but decided to hold back.

“I was explaining the whole Roc-A-Fella sh*t and a lot of feelings were going to get hurt,” B. Sig said. “I was airing sh*t out. Just the homies could listen to that when they come into the studio. I couldn’t put that out. It wouldn’t sit right with me.”

Sigel added that he’s currently working on a mixtape and album with DJ Green Lantern.— Mark Lelinwalla

MR Cee Pleads Guilty

HOT 97 deejay Mister Cee 'fessed up to a loitering offense Wednesday for a public lewdness arrest after cops busted him getting oral sex from another man in a car, Manhattan prosecutors said.

Cee, who was born Calvin LeBrun, 44, and his younger male companion, Lawrence Campbell, were busted March 30 at 4 a.m. in a car parked at Watts and West Sts.

Cee, who is also a well-respected record producer, pleaded guilty to a charge of loitering for the purpose of engaging in a prostitution offence, which is a violation and not a crime.

He was ordered to complete three months, or 12 sessions, of counseling with a doctor, officials said.

Cee made a name for himself in the hip-hop world as Big Daddy Kane's deejay. He later produced "Ready to Die," Notorious B.I.G.'s first album.

On Hot 97, he hosts "Throwback at Noon," a classic-hits hour. At the time of his arrest a station manager told the Daily News the allegations were untrue. Station officials did not immediately return calls after his guilty plea.

His lawyer also could not be reached for comment.

This was Cee's second conviction on the same charge. The music man was busted in lower Manhattan last Oct. 8 and pleaded guilty a month later, officials said.

Campbell, 20, who had no previous criminal record, was given an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal - meaning that if he stays out of trouble for six months, the case will be cleared from his record, officials said.

Billy Bob Thornton's Daughter Guilty of Manslaughter

Billy Bob Thornton's Daughter Guilty of Manslaughter in Baby's Death

The estranged daughter of Billy Bob Thornton had been convicted of aggravated manslaughter in the death of a friend's baby daughter, but was found not guilty of first-degree murder.

The verdict was handed down last Friday to Amanda Brumfield, 32, in the same Orlando, Fla., courthouse where Casey Anthony is being tried for the murder of her daughter, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Brumfield had claimed the death of 1-year-old Olivia Madison Garcia, while in her care as a babysitter one night in October 2008, was an accident – and that she had simply fallen a short distance out of a playpen.

Prosecutors said such a fall would not account for the three-and-a-half inch fracture found on the girl's skull and the bleeding and swelling on her brain.

Brumfield will be sentenced in July. She was also found not guilty of a third charge of aggravated child abuse.

Cosby Show Actress Dies

Clarice Taylor, who played Bill Cosby's mother on The Cosby Show, died on Monday at age 93, her rep tells PEOPLE.

She succumbed to heart failure and was surrounded by family when she passed.

Taylor earned an Emmy nomination in 1986 for her recurring role as Dr. Cliff Huxtable's mother, Anna Huxtable, on the long-running sitcom.

A performer on stage, radio, TV and film for over five decades, the actress was a member of the New York stage group, the Negro Ensemble Company, and helped to pave the way for African-American actors in the early 1960s.

Her own big break came that decade when she landed the role of Harriet, David's grandmother, on Sesame Street. She also starred alongside Liza Minelli in 1970's Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon and played Grady's Cousin Emma on Sanford and Son.

Taylor is survived by her two sons, William and James, and her five grandchildren.

Alex Rodriguez, Cameron Diaz split: Actress 'hurt and betrayed' after Yankee slugger calls it quits

http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2011/06/04/alg_diaz_arod.jpg
Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez and Hollywood starlet Cameron Diaz have split up, according to reports.

The celebrity couple has allegedly parted ways just one month after the actress spoke publicly about their relationship for the first time.

"They've broken up," a source told Perez Hilton's website fitperez.com.

"[Cameron is] hurt and betrayed, because she tried so hard to please him. … She went overboard."

Diaz, 38, and the baseball ace, 35, started dating last year and have been increasingly spotted publicly. At the Super Bowl this year, Diaz fed A-Rod popcorn, and the actress showed up at spring training in Tampa.

She confirmed that A-Rod was her boyfriend in the U.K.'s Elle magazine and said their love affair was "not a secret any more."

The movie star also met A-Rod's two children - Natasha, six, and Ella, three - and reportedly moved to Miami to be closer to him.

A-Rod has been linked to a string of stars since breaking up from his wife, Cynthia Rodriguez, including Kate Hudson and Madonna.

Diaz is promoting her latest movie "Bad Teacher," which she stars in alongside ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.

In the interview, she discusses the reaction to her recent weight loss, why she keeps it PG 13 and having to wear body pads for her new role in the new ABC Family series “State of Georgia”

On reactions to her weight loss
I find it funny that people now come up to me and say, ‘Wow, you are absolutely gorgeous’. I’m like, ‘I was beautiful before I lost weight. Egotistically speaking, I thought I was amazing’

On why she keeps it PG 13
It’s not so much about showing my sexy side because of the kids, I have to answer to my mama and brother, my dad and my grandparents, the ones I have to look in the eyes every day when I take my weave and eyelashes out.

On her new character
Ironically, my character is supposed to be the size that I was before. So I have to wear thicker body pads on the show.
Raven’s new show, “State of Georgia” follows the money strapped adventures of a woman who moves from New York to Georgia in hopes of becoming a famous actress. The show premieres Wednesday, June 23rd @ 8:30pm.

DALLAS -- As much as the Mavericks appreciate owner Mark Cuban's creativity, they want their NBA championship rings.

After the Mavericks clinched the franchise's first championship with Sunday night's win over the Miami Heat, Cuban said he might reward his team with something other than "old school" rings.

"Rings are done," Cuban told NBA TV. "It's time to take it to the next level."

But the consensus opinion among the Mavericks, who conducted exit interviews Tuesday, is that now is not the time to break from tradition.

"We got to talk to him about that," Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki said with a big smile. "I don't think the last word has been spoken yet. You know he always wants to do something different, wants to do something bigger, but I mean, the ring is just so classic.

Dirk Nowitzki: "I think I would vote for a ring. I mean, I'm a man. I don't know how I'd feel about a bracelet. I've gotta go with a ring."

Coach Rick Carlisle owns one championship ring, having been a reserve guard on the Boston Celtics' 1986 title squad. He wants another one now.

"It's got to be rings. I don't know what he's thinking," Carlisle said, laughing. "You win an NBA championship, you gotta have a ring. If he wants to give guys something else (in addition to) a ring, that's great."

President of basketball operations Donnie Nelson strongly agreed on that point.

"Let's get the rings," Nelson said. "I'll pay for them."

Players and coaches probably wouldn't be pleased with that solution, either.

"They might be plastic with cubic zirconium," Nelson joked.

Tim MacMahon covers the Mavericks for ESPNDallas.com.

Today, Bad Meets Evil Week comes to close here at Complex. While we're sure to spend the rest of summer (and then some) bumping Bad Meets Evil's new EP, Hell: The Sequel, we figured everyone could use a wrap-up since we put out a ton of content with Eminem, Royce Da 5'9", and Mr. Porter. To close out the week, we put together The 10 Most Interesting Things We Learned to summarize everything from our four main features. And we even added two new bonus GIFs with Slim Shady and Royce.

Eminem Explained That He Doesn’t Hate Relapse - Fans of Relapse may have been disappointed when Em dissed his sixth studio album on songs like "Not Afraid." But when we asked him about it, Em clarified his rhymes saying, "I don’t hate it at all, but when I’m looking back at an album I do have a tendency, and especially with that album, to run things into the ground."

Eminem's Manager Paul Rosenberg Actually Wrote The Hook To Royce Da 5'9"s “Rock City”- When we asked Em and Royce about their collaboration "Rock City," Royce brought up the fact that despite doing the hook, Eminem didn't actually write it—his manager Paul Rosenberg did. Em even jokingly admitted, “Paul writes all my !!.” LOL.

Eminem Got Complex’s Editor In Chief Noah Callahan-Bever To Try Vicodin - Back in the late '90s, when our current EIC was 19 years old he spent a summer haning out with Eminem and Royce (and getting stuck in elevators with them). During their time together, Em recommended Vicodin to Noah. It didn't go so well. Hey, it's not like Em ever said he was a "Role Model" or anything.

Eminem Has Holes In His Brain From Ambien - Before you go out trying Vicodin to be cool like Slim Shady (or our EIC) just remember, drugs are bad. Need proof? Just ask Marshall Mathers, who revealed during our cover story interview he doesn't even remember shooting the "Rock City" video or working with The Neptunes.

It Was Royce's Idea To Work With Bruno Mars - Bad Meets Evil working with Bruno Mars was an unexpected collaboration. But according to Em, it was all Nickel Nine's idea.

Some Random Girl's Voice Is On The Hook For "A Kiss" - According to the song's producer Bangladesh, the girl on the hook for that song is totally random. He explained it to us by saying, "The vocal in the song is really just a sound in the beat. It’s not really about the girl.”

Royce Da 5'9" Told Us About His Darkest Period - While discussing his excellent single "Shake This," Royce Da 5'9" reflected back on how bad his life once was saying, "I was [in an] abusive period. I pulverized bottles, I was abusive towards that. I was abusive towards my girl—not physically, but mentally and verbally."

Royce Da 5'9" Didn't Want To Work With Joe Budden - Although their obviously in the same crew now, Royce was initally hesitant to work with Joe Budden. Royce admitted to us that when his manager first approached him about getting on the song "Slaughterhouse" with Budden, his response was, "Man, I just don’t like the nicca."

Eminem Once Gave Mr. Porter A Place To Live - Back during the Infinite days, Mr. Porter had gotten kicked out his house. And even though his friend Eminem was pretty broke himself, he offered him a place to stay. According to Mr. Porter, "He was like, ‘I’ll give you my room, you get better at making beats, and I’ll sleep on the couch.’"

Mr. Porter Was Suicidal After Proof's [rip] - The [rip] of Proof hit everyone at the Shady camp hard, including Eminem. Mr. Porter had a hard time too saying, "I was ready todestroy myself. I was literally that depressed. I was out of it." Thankfully he bounced back.

It's almost impossible to teach an old dog new tricks but even countless stints in jail won’t break the spirit of an underdog who has been fighting for survival his entire life. Earl “DMX” Simmons has served skid bids on the reg, since becoming an international rap star in 1999. His string of arrests, include everything from misdemeanor marijuana possession to aggravated assault. Most recently, DMX is finishing up his latest sentence for parole violation, which he was hit with last December after getting caught drinking alcohol at a performance. Looking to stay on the straight and narrow for good, X granted VIBE an exclusive prison interview to explain his side of the story, quest to stay sober, new album, reality show and love life. This is the true story of Dark Man X pt. 1. —Mikey Fresh

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2790/5856993367_a5b86e97a0.jpg

VIBE: Good to hear from you, X. So when are you coming home exactly?
DMX: I got like twenty-eight days, man.

Is there like an exact date that you’re going to touch down?
Yeah, July 13th. The thing about this place is that they keep changing your date. I know the math don’t add up, but you know that’s what happens.

You definitely sound like you’re in good spirits this time around.
Yeah. What I decided to do this time is that—usually when I go to jail, I do all my push-ups and pull-ups and get my workout routine in. But I said I’m going to fall back on that and just exercise the mind this time around.

What kind of literature are you reading now?
The Bible. Practicing certain ways of acting, you know what I’m saying? Ways of doing things, frames of mind.

Being in jail isn’t a new thing for you. Can you honestly say you’ve learned something new from being locked up this time?
In a way, yeah. I realized that [change] is something that I want do this time. Like the last few times I couldn’t wait to get out and go have a drink. Like all my focus was on going to the club or things of that nature. Now, I’m in a frame of mind where I’m like ‘right into the studio and get my grind on.’

So right now you don’t even want to party? You want to go straight to work when you get out?
Yeah, straight to work. When I get out I’m going to pick my daughter up, and I had another baby since I been in here, so I’m going take my daughter to see my other daughter, I’m going to hang out for the day, and at night I’m going into the studio.

Are you still working on that gospel album or we getting the DMX we’re used to?
It’s going be the regular Dog. See, the gospel is still in the locker, but I want show them that I can [still] do this first.

Is there a title that you got for the new album yet?
Yeah I’m working on a title. It’s funny how it came up. I was stuck between two titles. The first one was Redemption and the second title was Beast. And somebody hit me like, why don’t you make it Redemption of the Beast.

Sounds like your comeback album so to speak.
Yeah, the album is going to be bananas. I mostly recorded it before I even got in here.

How many songs do you already have?
Um, about twenty - twenty-six joints.

Twenty-six joints?!
Yeah I got about seven more to lay when I get out.

Producer-wise who have you worked with so far?
Swizz, Scott Storch, umm you know, Grease, PK. People from the first album. This new producer—well he ain’t new, but I don’t know if you heard of him. Caviar?

Yup.
Yo, he hit me with some joint that’s bananas! It’s crazy.

How about feature-wise? You got any guests on there or is this like an all X record?
This pretty much would be an all X record. But Swizz did the single. I got Sean Kingston on the Scott Storch record. Of course I got a little LOX on there. Drag, you know. Keep it family tight. It’s going be a few features, but nothing crazy. I got Tyrese on a couple of joints.

I don’t think anyone really expected that.
Yeah. And yo, the joints is hard, too. They got the little R&B feel to ‘em, but they hard! Like “How’s It Going Down” was, you know what I’m saying? It was hardcore, but it was a love story.

It seems like this album is going have a lot more diversity than you’ve ever had before.
Yeah. Cause you know what, this is the longest I’ve taken to ever come out with an album. Usually they put me in the studio for 30 days and say you got thirty days to make the album. I’ve had the luxury, even though it really wasn’t considered a luxury, but I’ve had the luxury of being able to take my time with it.

How long has this album actually been in the making?
I’d say about a year. Now you gotta remember, out of that year I spent most of that time in jail.

Right. It seemed like you were going in and out at that time so much. Was there one specific reason why?
Yeah. I was on probation and they kept violating me for stupid stuff. With probation you have to get permission to travel. I’m like, ‘well this is my job. If you want me to pay my fines and my restitutions, you have to allow me to work.’ So that was a power struggle. They didn’t want me to travel. And sometimes l was like ‘Fuck it’, this is what I do. I gotta work. So I got violated and they gave me 5 months. And I had 2 weeks left on probation, on this one, and they violated me again. Like wow, really? 2 weeks left? Anybody else, they signing their probation resolution papers. But with me they want to keep me on until the last day. They showed up and violated me with 2 weeks left because I had a show, and I’m drinking at the show, and a part of it was on the Internet—people filming and stuff. So they saw me drinking out the bottle of Hennessey, and they violated me with 2 weeks left. They gave me the maximum they could give me which was a year. I’m like, really? All my fines are paid up, all my restitutions are paid up, and you’re gonna give me the most you can give me without successfully completing probation? But that’s how it is out here in Arizona.

That’s crazy. Did they actually use that video footage in court? Like from YouTube or something.
They didn’t have to. They just said they had proof of me—it wasn’t like a trial. It was just like a hearing.

So at this point X, do you honestly feel like you’re being targeted by the Arizona police like every single time?
Pretty much. One thing about being a celebrity that I learned a long time ago was that I pretty much gave up the right to fair treatment. I’ll either get a favor or it’ll be worse. It’s rare you get fair treatment. They either love you or they hate you. So I pretty much gave up that option a long time ago. But yeah, the sheriff--he openly spoke about how he wanted to make sure I stayed locked up. If these things happened in New York, there’s no way I’d be in jail. Or any other state where the law is like, followed.

I know your sobriety is always an issue. Did you have any recent troubles with staying sober? Has that affected the decisions you’ve been making?
Nah. I had a drink, which is why I went this last time. The time before that, I traveled without a permit. It’s just always ‘ee found drug paraphernalia as well’ when they come get me. So it looks like, to the person who doesn’t read all the charges or understand them fully—it looks like ‘oh, he’s back in jail for drugs again. It’s pretty much the same original charges, they just keep violating me on probation.

Are you going try and do things different to stay out when you come home this time?
I’m not on probation now. I don’t have to report to nobody. I can just work like I want to work. It was really frustrating to have to go to your probation officer to get a travel permit. And they have me doing piss test twice a week. And if I traveled anywhere and I was granted permits, therefore I’m not able to take the piss test and I gotta meet them when I get back—it was just a bunch of stuff they had me doing just because they were in control. My supervisor told me one time—I’m like ‘this is my job. You can’t deny me work’ and she was like ‘Oh, well you’re not special. You can get a job at McDonalds.’ I’m like lady, really? You know what I’m saying?

Especially now with the way music is, artists have to be able to travel to do shows. That’s really the only way you guys will really be able to make money.
Yeah, exactly.

X, I also know you have a reality show coming out. Can you tell us a little about that?
Well I have a few offers, but I don’t know which one I’m going to accept. But the basis of it is gonna be is—I have 6 baby mothers and 10 children.

Yeah, that’s a lot…
They don’t know each other though. 4 of them grew up together, 1 grew up together, 2 grew up together, things like that. So what I want to do is—it’s from the East to the West coast. It’s going to really show a side to me like—I’m a really good father and I love my children to death. So I feel like it’s important that they meet while they’re young so they can grow up as brothers and sisters as opposeto meeting each other when they’re adults and not really have any feeling for each other, even though they’re brothers and sisters.

So it’s the family element. You want them to have that family feel.
Exactly. I had brothers, 2 brothers and a sister, well shit—2 sisters and 3 brothers that my father had. I met the brother when I was younger. But we’re not really close. We don’t have much in common. He’s actually the reason why I got caught in this case out here and everything. But I have another brother and sister that I have still yet to meet.

How are you going to manage to get all these women to get along though?
It’s like I’m not really committed to any of them. So it’s like at this stage in the game, don’t worry about what’s going to happen between us sexually. Let’s focus on allowing our children to have a realfamily. And all of the mothers are not going be involved, I can tell you that right now. But there’s no way they’re going to deny me access to my children. And the two women that would be a problem, it’s like they can just fall back. I’m taking my child to meet their siblings. I’ll probably only travel with like 8 of them. Or 7. But all of them are going to meet.

And the cameras are going to be with you the whole time shooting it for the show?
Yeah. And they’re going to be able to show how much I really, really love my children. And how much of a big part of my life they really are, even though some of them I don’t get to see that often. But when I do see them, you can tell. I have relationships with all of them. It’s something that people—I don’t know if they expect it or not, but it’s a big part of my life.

X, I also heard that you have a new fiancée, model Yadira Borrego. Is that correct?
No! We absolutely were living together, and at one time we were engaged. But um, no. I’m recalling that she wants to work it out, but I really don’t see that happening. I’m not going say it won’t work, but this last time in jail, with me focusing on the mental, allowed me to see who’s there for me and who’s not. It’s easy to say, ‘I got your back. I’m there for you.’ But when it comes down to it, like I said, I’m not even talking about money and things like that. I’m good. I got fans sending me money. I’m good with that. But if you tell me you’re going to bring my daughter, bring my daughter. Don’t have me looking stupid in the streets. You running around saying ‘I’m DMX’s fiancée’ but you up in the motherfucking club, every motherfucking night. Come on! I don’t get down like that. I’m a King. Regardless of what I’ve been through and what I’ve done, I present myself as a King. And I get that respect from people, from everybody I deal with. I worked my whole life to establish that respect and make sure I get that respect. And I’ll be damn if I’ll have a woman--allow her to take it from me. That’s DMX’s fiancée but what you all up in the club in niggas’s faces? Fuck outta here!

So I guess it’s safe to say, at this time, X is a single man.
Yessir.

That should mean that your day 1 fans will be happy that you’re focused on making music. How do you think the rap game’s changed since you been gone? Do you think it’s going to be harder to try to fit in with what’s going on right now?
The name of the game is ‘Get In Where You Fit In, BUT Fit In.’ And for some people fitting in is blending in and doing what everyone else’s doing. For others, fitting in is just knocking niggas out the way. And that’s me. That’s how I’m going be at it. I’ve got my fanbase. I’ve got a box of mail. Like, how would you categorize that box? 2 square feet long. Full of mail. I’ve got fans and letters from Israel, France Germany, Sweden, London, Africa. They all saying pretty much the same thing ‘Yo, we love you, we need you, put some more music out please!’ And that’s without even hearing anything from me. It’s not like they just sucking dick like ‘Oh, X got a new joint out and its hot.’ It’s like we know what X’s capable of. That’s what we need. That’s the difference. Some people may come back because they put out a song that’s hot and everybody jump back on they dick. The people are knowing that he’s what we need right now. Regardless of what he puts out, we want him.

Something that we always hear at the VIBE office is we want DMX to do a It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot Part II. Have you ever thought about that?
That’s crazy. That’s what half the inmates in here tell me. My album, a lot of my albums, are in this penitentiary. A lot of people have my CD in here. CD’s, cassettes, everything. I get to hear my own music. But it’s one of those things where a lot of them say like that first one was the best. And the thing about being here, you’re gonna get it raw. In some people’s opinion, the 6th album wasn’t that good. In some people’s opinion, the 5th album wasn’t that good. But you know, it’s a growth. On certain songs, they just want you to curse and kill people on every fucking song. I’m like nah, you can’t do that. But I’m able to point out on every album. But that’s the consensus like ‘We need that It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot and Flesh Of My Flesh’ you know what I’m saying? And it’s like, I gotchu.

Over your whole career you’ve worked with a lot of different producers. But is there one cat that you haven’t been able to work with?
Yeah, Dr. Dre.

Oh, man. Have there ever been any talks with him? Have you even had the chance to…
Yeah! He reached out a couple of times. But it’s always a middle man who tried to get something out of it. Like he gave me a beat one time, and I sent it to my peoples, and they wanted to turn it into a compilation joint with everybody on it. And Dre got back to us like ‘Nah, keep that beat for X.’

Oh shit. Do you remember what year that was?
Umm, I remember it was around when I left Def Jam.

Have any rappers reached out to you while you were away want to work when you get home or to just give you some support?
Yeah. Swizz, Busta, Dame Grease, —it’s like when it happens it is appreciated, but I don’t dwell on it. I’m like ‘Oh that’s wassup. Tell him I said what up too’ and I let it go. I pretty much got a lot of people in my corner. I’m the People’s Champ. Oh ,that was another [album] title I was gonna use too, The People’s Champ.

Is it weird seeing the rap game now and seeing most of your peers that you came in the game with just not around anymore?
I’m not gonna disrespect anybody or shout anybody out, but it’s sad the shit I’m seeing here. All we got is 106 & Park in jail. And it’s like ‘wow, this is the Top 10?’ Like really? I know it’s really not the Top 10, but it’s their Top 10. Damn yo, that’s not a good look. Not a good look at all. I do like Nicki Minaj—how she getting at em. Haven’t heard the album, but the couple of singles I’ve heard—“Did It On Em,” you know what I’m saying? That “Boom boom boom.” Some shit, “Bang”—whatever. I like her style. And Kiss got a new joint too that I’m feeling.

Speaking of Nicki, how are you feeling about Lil Wayne and Drake?
Hmmm…no comment. I don’t like Drake. It’s nothing that he did to me, He actually is talented. He’s very talented.

So you’re just not feeling his music then?
Yeah, I don’t like him. It ain’t nothing personal. I don’t like his stuff. He is talented. He has a little wordplay here and there, but when I see him and here him it’s like—‘Money, I’m not rockin with that.’

It feels like right now in hip-hop a lot of people are saying the hardcore gangsta rap element is dead. Do you feel like that’s true?
They try to block it out. But that’s what rap is. It’s not about disrespecting, but it’s the voice of the voiceless. Before I tell you what it is. To me, it isn’t tight sweaters. That’s not what rap is. That’s not hip-hop at all. Every phase went through changing up their dress styles and all that, but since Run DMC came out it’s been baggy jeans. That has not changed. So all this shit they doing now, tryna spark something new, that’s basically what it is. Tryna spark something new to get people to say yeah--to stake the claim as the innovators. The creators. Like, ‘yeah we started this so we must be hip-hop because everybody’s doing it.’ No! You got a few little motherfuckers following you, doing the same shit, but that’s not what it is man.

[Laughs] But I mean fashion has to evolve just like the music, no?
Yeah, the fucking skinny jeans and tight sweaters! Those are baby clothes. What are you shopping at Baby Gap??? [Laughs]

[Laughs] It’s just what people want to do now. Even some of the older rappers--they’re all getting their clothes tighter now?
You know, its cause they’re just following. They just want to fit in. They want to look like they’re younger I guess. Like I said, one thing about ‘real’ is that it doesn’t change. The truth doesn’t change. It was the same when Moses got the Ten Commandments as it is today. That’s the thing about the truth. That’s the thing about real. It doesn’t change and it doesn’t have to change. Now you can put it in a different book, but it’s still real. It’s still the truth. And that’s what I’m bringing to the table.

So I guess when X comes home, it’s still gonna be baggy jeans and Timbs. You’re not going to see X dancing around in some tight jeans.
I think I’m gonna wear Timberlands until I die man. They may not be the hottest thing out, but Timbs keep reinventing themselves. They keep coming up with the new colors, the different bubbles, now you can get your name on them. Timbs is still on fire right now!

Still killing it.
Yeah! And that’s all I—I do not own a pair of sneakers or shoes.

Word? Not even Air Force Ones?
No, none of that. I put on a pair of sneakers when I came to jail. They gave me these sneakers. Then, I felt like retarded. I felt retarded just having a pair of sneakers on in at least 10 years.

So I guess you’re not really influenced by anything current in hip-hop?
Yeah. It’s like normally, when I’m in the streets, I don’t look at videos. I don’t go to concerts. Nas is the only person whose concert I been to. I don’t go to shows—I don’t want to be influenced by what someone else is doing. I don’t want to be influenced by anything that anyone is doing. I want to be influenced by the people.

Then where do you still draw inspiration from?
From the people! I walk amongst the people. I hear what their complaints are. I hear what they like. They tell me what they’re looking for. I can be hanging out with about 7 or 8 guys and we’ll see something and I’ll be like ‘aight so I was right in thinking that not to go that way.’ I get to stay on the same page as the fans, because I walk amongst the fans. You can’t speak for the people unless you’re able to walk amongst the people. And how many of these rappers out here actually hang out with regular people.

Probably none.
Exactly! But I do. People see me in the mall. I might have one or two dudes with me, but they ain’t no rappers. I talk to my fans and because I’m easy to talk to, they feel comfortable in telling me what they’re looking for. ‘X when you gonna come out with this’, ‘X, you need to come out with something like this’—I hear it all the time about how they don’t like the skinny jeans and the shit that’s on the radio right now.

It seems like now, rappers are really making a trend of coming in and out of jail. I don’t know if you heard but Prodigy just came home, T.I.’s locked up right now.
How long did Prodigy do?

Prodigy did almost 3 ½ on a gun charge. He just came home.
And Ja just went in, right?

Yup. Have you had any contact with him? I know you guys had some issues in the past.
Yeah since we had issues, we’ve had contact. But I saw him at the VH1 hip-hop Honors.

Yeah I saw there was a picture of you, Foxy, and Ja altogether.
Yeah. It was like, I was sitting in the front and his wife was behind me. And I looked back and I spoke to her. And when I turned around again—actually I was getting up to leave and he was sitting there. So people were already looking at us and knew that I didn’t know he was behind me. It was quiet. So when I turned around and seen him, I could feel all the eyes on me. And I was like ‘Yo watup man’ and gave him a pound and everybody started clapping.

Did you guys have any more words?
Yeah we spoke briefly right there, but later on at the hotel we took a couple of flicks together. We cool, but he’s just not the type of nigga that I would hang with. He never was the type of nigga I would hang with. But we was cool. I’d work with you, and yeah we can go to the studio, but we just two different people.

I got you. How about Irv? Have you had any recent contact with him? I know he’s still doing music.
Yeah he expressed interest. He wanted to work with me. I got to hear what he got. But—me and Irv will always be friends. Our wives are friends, our kids play together, his parents love me—it’s deeper than our relationship. Like me and Irv can say ‘Fuck you’ to each other but we still have ties. Irv’s my nigga.

Is there one label you would sign to immediately after you came home?
I would love to go to Def Jam. But you gotta understand the way Def Jam was.

The old Def Jam?
Exactly. Where when you went to the office, you could hear music coming out of every office. When they were hungry looking for music and listening to music and actually paid attention to what people wanted and what people had to offer. When I left there I was like wow, this is strange. A bunch of interns in the offices. It was so quiet that it was eerie. So I walk around the office to see what they’re doing, and one person was doing their laundry online. This doesn’t feel like a record label. This feels like a fucking law office or something.

So what really went wrong there?
I have a few inside people who confirmed my suspicions that they were trying to make me leave. Like ‘Yeah they just wanna get you out of there. ‘ That way they can do what they wanna do and this , that, and the other. If you remember, Jay quit. He retired from rapping. But he became president of Def Jam. He gave me the call, he called me personally. So I’m like ‘yeah that’s wassup! My mans is in a position now, he’s the president of the label I’m on, we good! Next thing you know, he’s out of retirement and I’m off the label. What a coincidence.

Damn. Have you even been able to have a conversation with Jay after that? I remember when it happened.
I’ve not talked to him yet, since. But I had a show November 18th, before I got locked up--No November 12th I had the show. And somebody in the crown was like ‘What’s up with Jay-Z’ and I was like ‘Fuck Jay-Z’. And it ended up all over the place. So he called Swizz, Swizz called me, and he tells Swizz ‘Yoo, why your man dissin me? I was gonna do a song with him’—Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Fucking bullshit. I don’t wanna hear that shit. And like ‘Yo, can you just get him to say he ain’t mean it’—NO! I’m not saying that. What I did say is if he wanna talk to me, I’m man enough to let him know why it’s ‘Fuck You’, but it’s still ‘Fuck You’! That’s what it is. I’ll let you know why, I can do that. It ain’t like you gotta worry about me running up on you shooting you. It ain’t that serious. You don’t owe me nothing. But if you want an explanation as to why it’s ‘Fuck You’, I’ll be more than happy to tell you why.

So the riff between you and Jay is actually a personal matter? I know a lot fans over the years were really curious to know if you and Jay were actually real life friends.
We were real good friends. He came down and heard the album, was like ‘Yeah, that’s wassup. The album’s hot. When you shoot the video?’ Directly after that he started doing some funny shit. You know, that night we went out and shot pool together. He could call me anytime. He called me one time in New York like ‘Yo I want you to come hear this Beans joint.’ I jumped in my truck. I’m a free spirit. I’m not running around with 10 people all the time. I drove down there. I lived in Upstate New York, Mount Kisco and shit. So I jumped in the Suburban, flew down there, ‘What’s up nigga? I’m here for you. That’s how I get down. We played pool there, we hung out in the studio. We ain’t get no work done, but we had a good time. Our birthdays are like a few days apart. So we had a lot in common. And the thing that’s crazy about us is our relationship was a real relationship. Because initially, I didn’t like him and he didn’t like me, so we began to battle. And the battle was like maybe 91 or 92. When he was with Original Flavor.

On top of the pool tables and all of that.
Exactly. In the pool hall in the Bronx. So we had history So it took years for us to get to the point where we were cordial. And we owe that to Irv Gotti. Irv was his man and Irv was my man. I had to tell Irv ‘Yo let me know when he got a show, so I can battle him again.’ Cause I wasn’t trying to kill him or nothing. It wasn’t beef. But I wanted to let him know that you can’t fuck with me, no matter how nice you think you are. And that was only for a few years. We realized what it really was. It was just some battle shit. We realized when you’re young like that you sometimes mistake when you battle somebody for beef. But we realized, there’s no beef involved. I don’t even know you to not like you. We earned each other’s friendship. And we became good friends. We wasn’t hanging out all the time—we two different type of niggas. But you know, if I see him somewhere we hang out.

Something DMX doesn't normally do with every single artist.
Yeah, cause I don’t fuck with too many artists.

That’s what I mean.
I fuck with Swizz Beatz. I fuck with Nas, I fuck with Busta, Cam, Ghostface, Raekwon—if we see each other somewhere, we hanging out. I’m like ‘Yo where you going’ or if they ain’t doing nothing they’ll roll with me and if I ain’t doing nothing I’ll roll with them, that type of shit.

Speaking of Nas, Nas actually just put out a new single. I don’t think you heard it but it’s called “Nasty” and he’s jus spitting with no hook.
Hmm, I was gonna do something like that too. See, we on the same page. I went to his show maybe 3 weeks before I got locked up. I went to see him do a show out here, so I went by. But anywhere he’s at man, I’ll go check on him. I’ll go holla at him, sit down, kick it, whatever. We are good friends. There’s been a couple of times where it’s just me, him, and our wives all went out to eat. No security.

That’s crazy. So Is there any chance that another DMX and Nas can do another record?
That’ll work. I’m glad you said that. I’m a reach out to him for this album.

You gotta make that happen.
I got about 6 songs that I left spots open for features. And I did that on purpose because whatever label I go to, they might have ideas for features. I’m come correct this time.

Belly is still a hip-hop classic. I don’t care what barbershop, what radio station, people still talk about this movie man.
Yeah, they play it on BET a lot. You know how many times I’ve seen it since I been here?

I’m saying! It’s on regular rotation now.
And they fucked up with the Belly 2. All they had was the title. Someone bought the title. Got people thinking it’s a part 2 to our movie when it’s really not. It’s just the name Belly 2. But, I been working with a couple of writers man where we can bring it back. A part 2 with a crazy story.

Oh really? With all the original characters maybe, hopefully?
No. it would really just be me, Nas and Meth. Some new hot chicks in there. But the story—the thing that most important to me with a movie is not so much the cast. It’s the story. See, this cast is important. You gotta have a good story. And it makes sense. It’ll show that I did some time for murder or whatever, and it’s really 10 years later. So it works out perfect.

I know a lot of the people that worked on the movie said that the way that Belly came out wasn’t how it was originally cut. Is that true?
The cut the budget, maybe 3 quarters of the movie. They just cut the budget right there.

Damn. Do you think it affected the storyline and how you were able to put the message out there?
Well, you know what it became a different message. Part of the original message was in there, but it also became a different message. There’s like a lot of loose ends, you know. And like the chemistry was so good, that people didn’t really focus on that. You still walked away from it thinking that you saw the entire movie. Feeling like you didn’t get cheated.

And that movie sparked the careers for a lot of people. I remember Vita, that was like the first time people saw her.
Yeah. I was trying to fuck her too. I’m like ‘we’re in this situation anyway, come on girl let’s get it for real.’ Nah we was cool though. She’s a cool girl. [Laughs]

Definitely.I have to ask how did you verse on "Money Power Respect" come about. It still rings off in the club. Anytime, people still go crazy.
I still perform that on stage too… Fuck they telling me I got to get off the phone. Before I go, let me just get these shout outs out there. I want to let the people know who my real crew is in here. These are my peoples. They good dudes. When they get out, you might see me with them so I’m just planting the seed now. X, Mac, Elbow, Bear, N-O, Sleeze. But like, this prison is different. It’s not like you’re from New York. Out here, It’s racially segregated. Its’ different races at different tables. You’re not allowed to smoke or share a cigarette with someone of a different race. It’s really weird. It’s kinda sad too. Because I like who I like. You ain’t gonna tell me, I gotta just chill with somebody just because they black. That don’t make sense to me. I made some new female friends since I been locked up. Some women who are really in my corner to support me and let me know they believe in me. Like most of my fanmail is letting me know that thye believe in me man and I can do it. They’re people praying for me. It’s incredible. It’s incredible how similar the message is in all the letters. I’ll be home soon, peace kid!
