I don't study hip hop and know a lot of background info like most of yall here ...and I know I'm 12 yrs late but I wanna know what's the deal with "Friend or Foe".Did DMX write that song or did Jay jack his rhyme style? We all know he Jacked Young Chris!

interesting..... I guess the flow does sound similiar? the song doesn't sound at all like a dmx joint to me though
I Highly doubt DMX wrote that joint.....
DMX went after K Solo for "Spellbound" ....lie detector tests were taken.....the whole bit.
I think he would have went after Jay if he did a "Young Chris" move
But if it was legit ghostwriting ( ex. Kane for Biz....B.I.G. for Kim....Nas for Will Smith...etc) it would be a non issue.
But I think Jay is a very capable emcee. No need for ANY DMX input whatsoever.

I don't hear any DMX influences in that song, unless you count the fast semi off beat delivery, but that was actually a Jay-Z trademark around that period on faster beats.

My bad... After a little research I see Friend or Foe came out in 96 and DMX debuted in 97 so maybe it's the other way around. But like Dre said..I can see X rappin those lyrics in that style.
