Ohio St.'s Ray Small says he sold rings
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Ohio State wide receiver Ray Small told the school's student newspaper that he sold Big Ten championship rings and other memorabilia for cash and got special car deals as an athlete during his playing days.
The Lantern reported that Small, who played for the Buckeyes from 2006 to 2010, said "everyone was doing it" on the team.
Five Buckeyes players are suspended for the first five games of the 2011 season for selling memorabilia to the owner of a local tattoo parlor. That is considered an improper benefit under NCAA rules. Coach Jim Tressel also is suspended for five games and is under investigation by the NCAA for knowing about his players' involvement and not telling his superiors for more than nine months.
"We had four Big Ten rings. There was enough to go around," Small said.
He added that despite Ohio State's large and proactive NCAA compliance department, most of the student-athletes "don't even think about (NCAA) rules."
Small said he used the money he got to cover his typical costs of living.
"We have apartments, car notes," he said. "So you got things like that and you look around and you're like, 'Well I got (four) of them, I can sell one or two and get some money to pay this rent.' "
He said the biggest advantages came from car dealerships.
"It was definitely the deals on the cars. I don't see why it's a big deal," said Small.
“
They explain the rules to you, but as a kid you're not really listening ... people show you so much love, you don't even think about the rules. You're just like 'Ah man, it's cool.' You take it, and next thing you know the NCAA is down your back.
”
-- Ex-Ohio State WR Ray Small
Ohio State is investigating more than 50 transactions between Ohio State athletes and their families and two Columbus auto dealerships.
"They have a lot (of dirt) on everybody," Small said, "cause everybody was doing it."
Small had 61 catches for 659 yards and three touchdowns during his Ohio State career, which was marked by frequent suspensions and discipline. He spent time on the practice squads of the Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins and now has returned to Ohio State to get his degree in sociology.
Small said players went to see Edward Rife at Fine Line Ink tattoo parlor because Rife was an Ohio State fan and gave big discounts. It was the U.S. Attorney's investigation of Rife on federal drug-trafficking charges that led to Ohio State officials finding out about the improper benefits.
Small said the players would have been foolish to turn down the discounted tattoos.
"If you go in and try to get a tattoo, and somebody is like, 'Do you want 50 percent off this tattoo?' You're going to say, 'Heck yeah,' " Small said.
Tressel continually suspended or benched Small during his playing days at Ohio State. One of the team's fastest players, he was seen as the heir apparent to Ted Ginn Jr. after the wide receiver and kick returner went to the NFL. But Small's career was marked by his stay in Tressel's doghouse.
"They explain the rules to you, but as a kid you're not really listening to all of them rules," Small said. "You go out and you just, people show you so much love, you don't even think about the rules. You're just like, 'Ah man, it's cool.' You take it, and next thing you know the NCAA is down your back."
Another former Ohio State player interviewed by The Lantern, defensive back Malcolm Jenkins, said Ohio State told players about NCAA rules, and if the rules were broken, it was the players' fault.
Ohio State spokesman Dan Wallenberg responded: "We educate as best we can and expect student-athletes and staff to follow our messaging and policies."
Former Buckeyes basketball player Mark Titus wrote Tuesday on his blog that the perks within the football program are far from a secret.
"Any OSU student in the past five years could tell you that a lot of the football players drive nice cars," Titus wrote. "You'd have to be blind to not notice it."
Small said there was no shortage of people trying to help Ohio State athletes.
"Everywhere you go, while you're in the process of playing at Ohio State," Small said, "you're going to get a deal every which way."

NCAA don;t have the balls to suspend the whole program. Ohio State makes too much money for the NCAA.
whats going to happen is that tressel may have to sacrifice himself for the sake of the program. The OSU President & Athletic Director is powerless when it comes to running Ohio State Football. The Boosters run that program. They wont fire Tressel but the boosters will "make" him step down if needed.
At the end of the day they will not allow no man to be bigger then Ohio State.
I believe Ohio State will still have a good season and may even content for a championship. They are ready to move on from Pryor. Braxton Miller is the future and they are still deep with talent of 4 & 5 star recruits that are ready to play. Only down size is that they lack experience of course.

Ohio State C Mike Brewster (played with Small in 2008-09)
* @Brewster50: He isn't a part of the sacred brotherhood anymore...never on time, never accountable, never sacrificed for the team. Can you trust his word?
* @Brewster50: Show me a coward and I will show you ray small
* @Brewster50: I made my name by hard work-blood-sweat and tears...he made his name today...by selling lies to the lantern..enough said..workout time!!
Former Ohio State WR Brian Hartline (played with Small 2006-08)
* @brianhartline: Stop crying and lieing... Just bc u didn't play as much as u wanted to doesn't mean u can talk now...
Former Ohio State RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (played with Small 2006-08)
* @BeanieWells26: The nerve of some cats!! It's one thing to bite the hand that feeds, but to go and lie about what u were being fed???? Really?!
Ohio State LT Mike Adams (played with Small in 2008-09)
* @75Ent: Crazy how people change...thanks a lot man! hope you got paid to do that interview
As my pal Nate likes to say, rough chatter.
Small took to Twitter as well on Thursday.
* @SmallyMcfly: Lol Ima snitch now that's the verdict got it up! Snitch on what?
* @SmallyMcfly: The Media is the devil if people really think I said these unruly thing about the teamates that I love... Now I did tell them about myself

Yesterday was the absolutely worse day in Ohio State History & The Worst Day to be a fan. I knew it was coming as I called this weeks ago but to actually see it go down is still a shock.
10 years ago when Tressel was 1st hired I didn't agree with it as I was a John Cooper fan but Tressel slowly grew on me. Of course they won the chip and I was 100% on board then but later the Maurice Clarett situation really pissed me off because I knew people around Clarett and the way the media and Ohio State played that situation out was definitely not how it went down but the 1 thing Ohio State is consistent about is the fact that they will never let one man be above the University. So they threw Clarett under the bus and now they are throwing Tressel under the bus and when I say they I am referring to the Boosters because they are the ones who really run that program. At the end of the day I put 80% of the blame on the players however, as a player I give them the benefit of the doubt because up until Ohio State got exposed the average Joe did not know it was actually against the rules to sale your own shit. So in some aspects I definitely don't agree with the NCAA rules because as a player I believe they help earn the brand they created in regards to their achievements at any university. So it was actually the selling of their own shit in return for tattoos that blew this whole shit open and not actually them getting handouts in money & cars. Ohio State is doing nothing different compared to other major universities across the country including Notre Dame. They are now being singled out but in the end I believe this situation will help turn the NCAA into a new direction in regards to taking more steps to accommodating Division I athletes.
The only thing that will help Ohio State in the end is the fact that they are one of the elite cash cows of the NCAA and too much money is at stake for the NCAA to bury Ohio State. ESPN/ABC's TV Contract is a prime example.
It was Ohio State's draw that help launch the Big Ten Network which was the 1st of its kind. It was Ohio State's draw that helped ESPN seal the deal persuading cable networks across the country to pick up ESPNU when they had broadcasting rights to one game and many areas faced the threat of being blacked out.
The link below shows Ohio State since 1998 has the most appearances in Bowl Games that had the highest ratings ever (7)

Auburn's 2011 BCS National Championship makes it five straight for the SEC. No other conference has had more than three staight National Championships so we are in an unprecedented era of NC domination by a conference, namely the Southeastern Conference.
The SEC has now won 5 straight BCS Championships; 6 of the past 8; 7 since it began in 1998. That's more BCS Championships than all the other conferences combined!!
Maybe most significantly, the seven SEC BCS Championships were won by five different teams (Tennessee, Florida, LSU, Alabama and Auburn). In the BCS era, no other conference comes close to that depth.
You can read about the SEC's four prior NC's (in this current streak) at 2006 - Florida; 2007 - LSU; 2008 - Florida; and 2009 - Alabama.

According to NBC4 in Columbus, Pryor has been driving on a suspended license for the past two weeks. BMV documents obtained by the television station show that Pryor’s license is under suspension until August for failing to provide proof of insurance. The BMV also said that there is no indication that he has any type of driving privileges."

An Ohio State offensive starter said today: "I haven't spoken with Terrelle and I don't care to..."
So it appears that no only has the state turned on Pryor, his teammates have as well.
What yall think Pryor's gonna do now that he's officially leaving.

Its Karma and will only get worse as people around him realize they are not going to get a return on their investment.
Same shit that happen to Clarett
How exactly does the supplemental draft work as far as the draft picks?
How exactly does the supplemental draft work as far as the draft picks?
If you take a player in the third round of the supplemental draft you lose a third round pick in the next years draft
How do they figure out draft order? From last years?

How do they figure out draft order? From last years?
The league uses a weighted three-step, semi-lottery system to determine the order of the supplemental draft as follows:
* Teams with six wins or less participate in the first lottery for the top supplemental draft picks. The team that posted the worst record among that group is given a weighted advantage over the following team, with each team's "weight" being decreased on down the line until reaching the team with the best record in the group.
* The second group consists of non-playoff teams and follows the same weighted system.
* The third group consists of last season's 12 playoff teams and, again, follows the same lottery system.
Where do y'all think he would be the best fit?
