Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler took a beating from NFL players past and present when he missed most of the second half of the NFC championship game with a knee injury. Cutler said he would have an MRI, but many wondered how serious the injury actually was. Here's a sampling of Twitter opinions, including one that crossed sports:

i hope he really was hurt. because if not he quit for NO reason. they was only down 2 scores it wasn't like a blowout or anything AND it was early in the game

Caleb Hanie did well aside from the 2 picks though. Keep in mind he is the 3rd string QB but he put some points on the board lol

maybe....
Somebody took his family hostage and told him he had to throw the game or the family would die...so he faked an injury so he could save his family...

yeah...that's it...

Yeah I was like WTF??? Steve Mcnair and Phillip Rivers played with a torn MCL and ACL// I'll bet you that Haine's Agent was getting phone calls all night..Dude almost won the game..aside from those 2 critical picks he threw,he did pretty good to have not ever played in a NFL game

Isn't this the same Jay Cutler that was sacked far more than any other quarterback in the league? Isn't this the same Jay Cutler that got destroyed against the Giants (9 sacks in one half). Isn't this the same Jay Cutler who has played behind a subpar line the last two seasons? And now he's a quitter and not tough. Really? Did anyone see his attempt to comeback in the second half. The one throw he made was all kinds of awkward. Dude was done. You can rightfully question his play in the first half but not his heart. If he was a quitter, he'd have packed it in before this. It doesn't add up.

i saw on CBS Sports online that his MCL WAS torn, can anyone confirm this?

Oh, and not taking up for the bears...i just hate how the media takes one thing and runs with it before knowing the story

Dude got sacked like 8 times in a half and came back after halftime. He's not a quitter. He already wasn't playing well. Maybe they made him sit because poor play with a sprained MCL = VERY poor play.

Bears QB Cutler shops with girlfriend
The saga continues for Jay Cutler.

The Chicago Bears quarterback was caught by TMZ's cameras Wednesday as he walked in Los Angeles with his girlfriend, former MTV reality star Kristin Cavallari.

The much-maligned Cutler did not appear to be limping, after taking heavy criticism for sitting out the second half of the Bears' NFC Championship Game loss to Green Bay on Sunday.

The 27-year-old signal-caller was diagnosed with a Grade 2 tear of the MCL in his left knee on Monday.

People with such injuries typically complain of instability in the knee when they attempt to cut or pivot, Dr. Jonathan Cluett wrote for About.com. There is increased pain and swelling than a Grade 1 injury, and 3-4 weeks of rest is suggested, Cluettt wrote.

The TMZ cameraman did not ask Cutler about his injury, but Cavallari — who starred on the "The Hills" — asked him to leave them alone while they shopped.

Many NFL players have questioned Cutler's toughness, saying he should have played through the injury in the crucial contest. But Bears coach Lovie Smith and several teammates defended Cutler, saying his injury was serious and team doctors would not allow him to play.
