So how do you guys feel about him? Is it for you? What do you think about his style?

I saw him like 2 years ago when he opened for Talib and David Banner. I was very impressed. I thought he was going to be some wack up and coming rapper who was going to bore the crowd. he held his own

Fast forward to now and I must salute this dude. He has stayed authentic and I can tell he really loves the culture and the craft.

The first 2 singles have been nice. Im pretty sure the album is going to have a pop/r&b'ish/rock sound to it, but its cool.....im tired of the bang bang, shoot em up, selling crack on the corner hip hop...I think hes refreshing

thoughts?

I'm still carrying the flag for Nipsey Hussle!

He might not never drop though, his level of gangsta on a track ain't even in style no more LOL. I haven't heard anybody this specific and blunt about their gang affiliation in a long time haha

Like snoop say some crip stuff and he be melodic with it. "only on the left side, yeah thats the crip side" on a party track. Nipsey be like "rollin' 60's slauson ave nigga what!!" mad as hell. I don't know how he gonna clean that up haha

song wise he never reminded me of snoop, he just looks like him lol. I think he got the voice similiar to the game or ya boy, with a heavier cali accent..

OK here is my opinion....a little biased but......

I have known about B.O.B. for a minute. My boy TJ who run's TJ's DJ's pretty much broke this artist to radio. He started pushing this artist last year and has done a great job.

B.O.B. is a rapper yes....but dude is truly a good musician as well. His type of music is perfect because it reaches so many different audiences.

To date:

Airplanes is currently #12 on Billboards HOT 100.

Last week Airplanes moved about 150k to 200k single sales and that track doesn't even have radio play yet.

The album drops 4/27 and I think it's going to be huge........

This kid has a good marketing machine behind him, he's radio friendly and he's different.

Hate him or love him......dude is gonna be huge:eek:

You are correct TJ did not break B.O.B. as an artist, he was paid to break him into radio. He worked all of the stations into playing his records. Most artist who can afford this get people like TJ to work for them. TJ is on tour with B.O.B and Lupe right now.

I know a couple of cats right now and all they do is break artist into radio. If you are good at it you will get the calls and money to do it.

Q with your connections with all these Mixtape DJ's you should be charging these up and comers money to break their tracks to the mixtape market.

One thing I have learned in dealing with a lot of music cats, if they got budget from anywhere they have to spend it. And if you come in my face with it I'll help you spend it............

that's not really my hustle, I have people under me that charge for services like that, it's a headache to deal with artists, and the turn/over profit is clearly exaggerated by people like said dj crew.......

if you are already in the market & creating mixtapes/dj'n party's it's cool, but if your not that shit is completely useless......it doesn't cost anything to make mixtapes anymore and the promotion of them is basically just putting them online on different sites, so it's really a dead market.

having a dj crew is a nice compliment to any artist.... but in my experience it has damn near been the least important part of an artists package..... they typically don't want to just bang your single over & over, which is what an artist would want or what would be ideal for the artist.

lets give a scenario, because I used to do this... and still work with people who do it.......

ARTIST A: let's say that artist is B.O.B.

DJ CREW B: lets say that dj crew is tj's dj's (for the sake of arguement 50 dj's strong)

the artist comes to the dj crew & says i'd like promo..... best case scenario he would pay for all 50 dj's to do a mixtape..... which would never happen..... typically you make a few hundred of an artist or $1000 at the most..... but even if he paid for the entire 50 dj crew to do a mixtape on him, or a slot on every dj's mixtape, that's only like 5 stacks, which sounds cool, until you have to actually create the dj crew, push the record to all dj's, and make sure each one of them spin the record then report back & link the artist to every mixtape etc to show results, only to have them say, damn that didn't even work........

this is a hustle for dj crews.... that's how they make extra money, the promotion never works....it never breaks artists. some cases where a dj has built his name up so tuff that he did some shit with artists....but where the money is made is the artist doing shows, breaking the dj team off money to dj the shows etc.

I am just a designer, I don't dj, and I don't make mixtapes anymore.... so it's more trouble than it's worth.... at most I could make a few hundred extra, and I make that in an hour or two any way with alot less work

Qwasian

Those nominations have helped BEP tremendously. Music is a business right? If the Grammy's is the mother of all music award shows, being nominated would be an honor for me personally. There are countless artists who were rarely known who's career and sales went through the roof after they were nominated or won a grammy.

Lupe getting recognized is great for Hip Hop. He has the talent and skills to represent it well at the grammys.....better him than wocka flocka
